Ride for the Week

Been a good week for riding even with the rain. Started last Friday with a trip from work to Sully's for the Friday afternoon Bloody Mary, good trip 1 hour 18 minutes for the 16+ miles, thinging I was thirsty....... most other trips home to bike shop running less than 1:30, saving a good chunk of change not driving to and from work, I-pod and amp working just fine, can hear music over the cars vroom-vroom-vrooming by.

Didn't hook up music this morning on ride downtown was just relaxing thinking about different rides over the last few years. One that I remember real well was the one when first met Jim, Jeff had told him if you are going to ride Ragbrai you need to get a hundred mile ride in, Jim met Jeff and I at the old AK's on 5th in WDM, headed down the rabbit trail over the trestle on to Bill Riley trail going to Cummings. Made it as far as big turn in golf course when beer cart girl was going by, stopped her for a couple beersm, all the time Jim's thinking we need to get going if doing a 100 because he has been riding down to Martensdale and back a 40 mile trip, we stopped at Cumming Tap more carb loading ran into several other riders after a few more beers we headed towards Martensdale with Paul meeting us just off the trail where it crossed a gravel road about half way to town with a cooler of beer we all atned up for. Finished riding into Martensdale where we went to the resturant and bar, had some supper, Icky (Scott W.) was passed out in a booth dragged him up and started our way back to WDM, not before stopping again in Cumming, then getting off the trail in Orilla, taking the county roads back to 63rd for a final stop at Charlie's Filling Station at Midnight, told Jim that was a 100 mile day. There must have been 10-15 of us on that ride.

Mondays & Wind

What is it with Mondays and wind, seems like every time I drive into work plan on riding bike home nothing but, head wind, makes for a slower ride and being a fatman makes me work my ass off to knock out the 18 miles to Sully's for a beer. 1 hour 45 minutes later pulled into Rasmussen's Bike Shop, new tires ordered was in, had a quick beer headed over to bar for a beer and a game of video golf, got hooked on it over the winter.

Headed downtown this morning to Bike Kollective, was going to be open and sevring some sort of breakfast for Bike to Work Week. Rolled in downtown around 5:45am hung out for a while when someone showed up, Thee Rev wasn't there was on his way, riding in and picking up bagels. Took a couple photo's headed to bus stop, to grab Ankeny express.

Cynco de Mayo run headed for shop to order some new tires, then over to Sully's for a margarita or two. Made it to shop in 1:26:+ good time for me, even made it before Sully's was open.

Heading down to Rasmussen's Bike Shop today, to help Donny load the truck and head up to Big Creek State Park for www.punkrockcycling.com Training Duathlon. Batteries charging, so should have some photo's to post tomorrow.

Goal

With goal in mind for ride home headed out from work around 1:30. Fatman with a tailwind can roll downhill, was at Beaverdale Trestle in about 45 minutes.

Goal in sight, come on light change but only if you want too.

Figured out that I drive to work park the car at work (in case of rain) can be on the bike @ 1:30 heading towards WDM, next day in on bus at work by 6:45............ Two and a half hours later made it to Sully's for a couple beers, then on to P.O. Box to check mail, on to El Rey for supper.

Was good day to get out on bike, started with long about way to Sully's for a couple beers and video golf with Ron, Todd. Then headed over to Post Office for mail, on my way to A.K.'s on Westown where Conlin and the band he's in was playing around 9:30 (John's girlfriend is suppose to send me a couple photo's) stopped at Jim's on way............. His beer colder in garage was empty, threw the log a couple times for Joe (Jim's dog) had him thrash the blonde bitch (deb's dog) before riding the rest of way to A.K.'s. Left A.K.'s around midnight headed to Hy-Vee grabbed some food and headed home.................. First time this year pulled a stunt of drinking several hours, getting on bike and heading somewhere to have a couple more beers..........Out of shape

Good time at Sully's, started a self-destruct-tour @ 6am with Bloody Mary's then a couple of Beers, then on to Screwdrivers......... Stopped at Ladder 13 for a quick game of video golf couple more beers, Todd was driving by, came in, thought I recognized that bike, played one more game then home for a nap then back to Sully's for my 2 o'clock start work time. Will add photo's later, forgot camera at home.

Same Ride, Different Day

Almost the same ride as Wednesday, stop at the Carney Marsh for a safety break.

Only thing that was different today was, Squirrel was riding his towny.

Squirrel stopped at Casey's on N.E. 14th grabbed a couple of 16oz, I made to trestle bridge a couple minutes behind Squirrel............ I was on auto pilot, followed my normal route, Brian was waiting on Hull & Cornell, then realized I turned onto Douglas, that's why I was right behind him getting on trestle bridge. Seen Jimmy & Carol on Urbandale trail walking dogs, and Bagger Mary on 48 & Franklin, other than that uneventful ride home.

Made one small comment about the world and it came up to bite me in the ass hard. Wind was out of the SSE 14mph leaving work, after meeting up with Squirrel in Carney Marsh heading towards town into nice wind, wasn't to bad going east. After the Douglas - Euclid stretch through MLK to Urbandale trail to Beaver the wind thought it would be fun to switch to SSW, plan was already in place to ride to WDM Post Office grab mail.

Headed to Wally-World to get some things to feast on at work.......... I won't ride all the way into work until later on........... Right now hit the bus downtown transfer to Ankeny Express, get to work around 6:45, makes for a long day............. love saving the money..... gas at $309.9 a gallon............. That SUCKS
